Under the Sea Painting Kit for Mudpuppy
I’m so thrilled to share a recent project with you, as I just received my samples of it today — this adorable Under the Sea painting kit from Mudpuppy!

This is such a neat technology for coloring books, where each page has a little palette of actual watercolor paint embedded in the paper. You just wet the paint a little with a brush, and it comes alive as paint, ready to painted in on the page.

It even comes with an adorable little brush embedded in its own cozy slot in the back cover, which is such a thoughtful detail not only because it provides little artists with a new brush, but it makes the whole kit so self-contained, perfect for giving to your favorite little artist when you’re out and about, to keep them busy. Each page also has a perforation so you when you’re done, you can remove the palette and focus on your beautiful job painting.

I had such a fun time illustrating this one, as I love drawing sea creatures and I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about them over the years because my kids (especially my son Emmett) love underwater critters, visiting aquariums, and rockpooling. (Who am I kidding, I LOVE rockpooling! But I digress.) Each page of this awesome painting kit has a different kind of sea life, from crabs and jellies to whales and sharks. And they’re all cute and friendly and surrounded by corals, waves, seaweed and bubbles.

I worked with the amazing art director Emily Kleinman on this, and it was a total joy as always. I love creating things for Mudpuppy because their products are so colorful, interesting, educational and well designed. I can’t wait to share these painting kits with my kids and have some relaxing fun coloring in all of the sea creatures. If you’d like to pick one up for yourself, you can buy it in the US at Amazon US here, or direct from Mudpuppy here, or from your favorite Mudpuppy stockist. It’s not quite out in the UK yet, but it has a release date of April 24th; you can pre-order it from WH Smith here. Thanks as always for reading, and if you do get yourself a painting kit, I hope you enjoy it!
