More Inspiring Women for Grace & Grit
In honor of today being International Women’s Day, I thought it would be a great time to share a few more of the illustrations I created for the Grace & Grit subscription boxes, which highlight the achievements of strong and inspiring women from history. I talked about the project here, and since then the Grace & Grit boxes have been getting a lot of positive attention from the media. It’s so exciting to be part of such a worthwhile, uplifting project!
Here are three more of the illustrations I did of female role models and the inspirational quotes to go with them. I love the diversity of time, race, and geography that is represented here, and the amazing achievements of these women.
First we have Sacajawea, whose journey across the country with Lewis and Clark in 1804 — with her baby strapped to her back — sounds even more amazing to me now that I’m a mom and I know how traveling with a baby takes twice the work!
It was great to learn more about Harriet Tubman’s amazing dedication to the underground railroad — she guided about 300 slaves to freedom, and risked her own safety with every trip she made.
Lastly it was so fun to work on this picture of Audrey Hepburn and one of her best quotes, because in my youth I was quite the addict of all of Audrey’s movies! I portrayed her with a globe here, as a nod to both her own personal journey (from a child in Belgium to a career in Hollywood to a retirement in Switzerland) and all of her amazing humanitarian work which took place all over the world.
I thoroughly enjoyed creating all of these illustrations, and I hope the girls who receive them in the Grace & Grit boxes enjoy them too. As always I owe a big thanks to Brandon Alcorn, who hired me for this great project, and Heather Stark who runs the Grace & Grit show!
